Fall RV Trips - Kentucky

Fall RV Trips - Kentucky

When you're looking for ideas for fall RV trips, often New England is the main location that comes to mind. But there are plenty of other places in the United States that are beautiful during the autumn season. Why not think outside the box this year and try somewhere new?

For a less crowded destination for fall RVing, consider Kentucky. With its winding roads and rolling hills, it's a truly lovely location any time of year, but in the fall, the state is especially pretty. In western and central Kentucky, you'll see Thoroughbred horses prancing behind white fences while they enjoy the cooler weather, and in eastern Kentucky, you can explore acres of woods and mountains bursting with fall colors.

Some excellent choices for scenic drives throughout the state include:

- Zilpo Scenic Byway and Wilderness Road Heritage Highway in Daniel Boone National Forest
- Woodlands Trace National Scenic Byway in western Kentucky
- Bluegrass Country Driving Tour in central Kentucky

Kentucky also has a program called ColorFall, which runs during the month of October and provides blog updates on leaf changes and foliage conditions from locations throughout the state, so you can go where Mother Nature is looking her best at any given time.

If you prefer to stay in one place, Kentucky has plenty of gorgeous parks for you to choose from. One of the most exciting is Mammoth Cave National Park. Set up camp here and explore miles of hiking trails amidst the changing leaves and then take an underground tour and adventure into the heart of the world's largest known cave system.

If you decide you need a break from all the sightseeing, you can venture up the famed Bourbon Trail and visit multiple distilleries for a taste of the country's best bourbon. Take a few tours and see how bourbon is made, and get some souvenirs to take home with you!

Make your plans, pack up your new or used RV, and head out to the Bluegrass State this fall! What other fall RV trip ideas do you have? Share with us in the comments.
